Granite
Gear
is sponsoring a Pacific Crest Trail
film, Only
the Essential
, which portrays the journey of two thru-hikers moving from Mexico to
Canada and their experience of connecting to nature and the subtler wisdom of
the wild.

In the summer of
2013, Arisman, carrying his Granite
Gear Blaze AC 60 pack,
and friend Casey Gannon thru-hiked the Pacific
Crest Trail with cameras in hand. From their 5-month, 2668-mile journey through
the wilderness of California, Oregon, and Washington, Only the
Essential
was born.

Our goal was to
capture the brutal, yet breathtaking, ebb and flow of thru-hiking, said the film’s producer, Colin
Arisman. The film serves as a window to experience the Pacific Crest Trail and
the value of simplifying our modern lives by carrying ‘only the essentials we
needed to live on trail.

Arisman launched
the trailer
of the film this October, and the video went viral on Facebook garnering 60,000
views in two days, and was shared by major publications such as Outside
Magazine.

Early screenings
of the film produced praise from outdoor writers and adventurers. Steve Casimiro,
editor for the Adventure Journal, said of the film, ‘a
wonderful, fresh enthusiasm for the pureness of spending night after night
under the stars, day after day cruising on your own power.

The 40-minute
film is now available for purchase at OnlyTheEssential.com.
Full film screenings begin on December 19th and will
take place in cities in Oregon, Washington and Vermont. View the screenings
