Retail Jobs Increased By Over 46,000 in February

Retail industry employment increased by 46,400 jobs in February over January, the National Retail Federation said. The number excludes automobile dealers, gasoline stations and restaurants. Overall, the economy added 313,000 jobs, the Labor Department said.

Academy Sports Appoints General Counsel

Academy Sports + Outdoors appointed Rene Casares as its senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Bass Pro Provides Details On Cabela’s HQ Buyouts

Bass Pro said Thursday that 290 Cabela’s employees located in Sidney, NE will leave the company this week as part of a voluntary buyout program. Another 390 former Cabela’s employees also applied for buyouts, but no immediate action will be taken on those. 

Accell Group’s 2017 Profits Erode

Accell Group reported sales rose 3.7 percent in 2017 while operating profits were down 37 percent due in part to a weak performance and transformation of the organization in the North America region.

USFIA Statement On Tariff Increases On Steel and Aluminum

The United States Fashion Industry Association in a statement said it expects “widespread net job loss in the United States” as a result of the Trump administration’s move to raise tariffs on steel and  aluminum imports.

Newell Brands Announces Board Change

Newell Brands Inc. announced that Kevin Conroy has resigned from the Newell Board of Directors for personal reasons. This change is currently effective.

OIA Responds To New Tariffs On Steel, Aluminum Imports

In an e-mail to members, Rich Harper, manager of international trade for the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), wrote that the Trump administrations move to raise tariffs on steel and aluminum imports “would lead to higher costs for outdoor products produced domestically that utilize steel and aluminum imports, like camping stoves, tent poles and skis and snowboards.”

Accell North America Appoints New CEO

Accell North America (ANA) announced that it has appointed W. John Short as its new chief executive officer. Short will oversee all Accell Group operations and investments in North America and will report to newly appointed Accell Group global CEO and Management Board Chairman Ton Anbeek.
