SEATTLE, Wash. (March 19, 2019) — Therm-a-Rest has been leading the industry with award-winning outdoor sleeping gear since 1972, and this year is no different as Backpacker Magazinehonors the brand with its 2019 Editor’s Choice Award for the new Hyperion 20F/-6C sleeping bag. The 900-fill bag, made with Nikwax Hydrophobic Down, weighs in at 1lb 4oz, and is one of seven sleeping bags, quilts and mattresses that debuted this spring as part of Therm-a-Rest’s ultralight collection.

Noted as one of the most prestigious awards in the outdoor industry, the Backpacker award is given annually to outdoor gear featuring outstanding innovation in design, materials, and performance. The award is given to gear that stands out during Backpacker’s rigorous field-testing. The level of testing and transparent process has earned the magazine a level of trust from readers, retailers and manufacturers. Their review of the Hyperion calls out the bag’s light weight and comfortable profile.

“If you’re ruthless about cutting weight, you’ll like the Hyperion. It’s one of the lightest models in this temp category, thanks to a narrow, heat-saving shape, a half-length zipper, and 900-fill goose down.”

The Hyperion is among the lightest in its class and is built for performance with technologies like thermally-efficient box baffled construction, zoned insulation and a draft collar to maximize warmth – all in a package that packs down to the size of a one-liter Nalgene water bottle.

This will be the second Editor’s Choice award Therm-a-Rest has received for its sleeping bag line from Backpacker Magazine. In 2018, the Polar Ranger -20F/-30C sleeping bag, designed with polar explorer Eric Larsen, was awarded for best expedition sleeping bag in the Fall/Winter Gear Guide.

The complete list of Backpacker’s 2019 Editors’ Choice Award winners will be officially announced in the magazine’s Spring Gear Guide, on newsstands today, March 19, 2019. Therm-a-Rest is one of 12 brands honored by the award this year. For more information about the Hyperion and entire ultralight collection, visit www.thermarest.com.
