Sneakerpedia, the online sneaker archive created by Foot Locker, celebrates its one-year anniversary this month. In celebration, Sneakerpedia launched a
host of inspired additions to the site, including sneaker-obsessed guest
bloggers, celebrity sneaker stories and the introduction of the “Crate
of the Month.”
Foot Locker said the website was created to unite the sneaker community and showcase the largest sneaker collection on earth, Sneakerpedia has already made a giant footprint on the sneaker world. Since its inception in May 2011, the site has attracted some of the most influential sneaker aficionados worldwide, including Elliot Curtis, Bobbito Garcia and DJ Clark Kent, and users have published and shared more than 12,600 sneakers, to date.
“It has been an exciting year to watch the sneaker community embrace Sneakerpedia and help build this incredible online repository of sneakers for all to enjoy,” said Stacy Cunningham, EVP marketing, Foot Locker U.S. “Sneakerpedia was born to connect sneaker enthusiasts from all over the world, and we are steadfast in our mission to be the Wiki for every sneaker ever created and the greatest online sneaker archive in the world,” continued Cunningham.
As part of the one-year anniversary celebration, Sneakerpedia has introduced “Crate of the Month,” a highly exclusive award for the most deserving sneaker collection. Users are tasked with uploading their “crates” based on the theme of the month and celebrity judges will select the winner who will receive a special prize. The theme for May will be “high-tops” and the prize for the top crate will be a pair of Nike Galaxy Foamposites.
For the inaugural May promotion, Sneakerpedia has handpicked a series of influential collectors from the fields of sports, fashion and culture from all around the world including Footballer Darren Bent (UK), Dylan Hughes, editor of Vice Magazine UK (UK), and John Kim, senior editor of Sneaker News (United States). In addition to judging the contest, they will be putting their sneaker obsession to good use sharing their own sneaker passions, collections and stories with the Sneakerpedia community on the blog.
