With Wal-Mart as one of its largest customers, Pacific Cycle has announced that they will comply with the retailer’s RFID mandate, which calls for RFID source tagging on each case shipped. Since each case shipped from Pacific contains a single unit, Pacific will also implement RFID benefits into their own inventory system.

“Our goal is to meet the mandate set by Wal-Mart and to also benefit from using this internally,” said Edwin Matthews, I.S. director at Pacific Cycle. “By tracking items within the retail store and determining what factors impact sales, we hope to learn how to increase sales at retail stores. We're also hoping to reduce manpower in our receiving and shipping operations as well as manage events to make sure we're shipping the right product.”

Pacific said that it has “a host of other ideas” that leverage RFID technology in reducing warehousing, shipping, and inventory management expenses, as well as using the technology to increase retail sales.
