Atmos, the Tokyo-based footwear retailer acquired by Foot Locker in 2021, is reportedly planning to close its three North American stores and cease online operations in the region to refocus on growing business in Japan and Asia.

Atmos has three stores in Philadelphia at 1509 Walnut Street, New York City at 203 West 125th Street, and Washington, D.C. at 3124 M Street NW.

“The atmos brand has a unique and authentic identity, character and spirit. Given the strength of atmos in Japan and Asia, we are focused on further investing in this market. In line with this focus and our plans for simplification, we have made the strategic decision to close our three atmos stores in North America and our atmos U.S. website. We are confident that this is the right move for atmos and remain committed to serving sneaker culture,” said Patrick Walsh, SVP, GM of Atmos.

“We are confident that this is the right move for Atmos and will help us continue to work in service of bringing sneaker and street culture to our customers in Asia,” he added.

Foot Locker acquired Atmos for $360 million in November 2021. In the second quarter, same-store sales at Atmos fell 10 percent as a strong tourism rebound in Japan was offset by the impact of fewer product launches.
