Adidas teamed up with Pharrell Williams Humanface line, once again, to launch a collection of football jerseys for five of the leading European Soccer clubs — Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

The collection dropped this weekend.  Its inspiration comes from “the collective memories and significant moments in the world’s top football clubs… with their legacies serving as the foundations of the design process,” said Adidas.

The jerseys are unified by hand-painted designs that reflect “today’s football culture and the human spirit”.

  • For the Arsenal shirt, Williams went to Adidas’ archives and chose one of it’s most recognizable kids from the London club’s history, the ‘bruised banana’ jersey from the 1991/93 season, and reimagined it by giving it a hand-painted bleed effect.
  • The inspiration for the FC Bayern Munich shirt comes from the red home shirt worn from 1991/93 and reworked by hand using thick acrylic paint.
  • Pharrell took a pink shirt from Juventus’ 2015/16 season — the first season it partnered with Adidas. The shirt’s colors are bold and vivid and merge sport with style.
  • The Manchester United jersey comes from the club’s 1990/92 snowflake blue and white print away kit. A design selected to reflect the feel of the city’s music scene from the late 80s.
  • The new Real Madrid jersey was inspired by Pharell’s friend, collaborator and designer, Yohji Yamamoto. The artwork represents the dragon design from the club’s 2014/15 season.

Due to COVID-19, soccer games for the five professional clubs are played indoors and without fan attendance. The shirts are one way that Adidas x Pharrell Williams want to add interest for match day television viewers.
