Zumiez Inc. reported a 53.7% increase in sales for the month of March to $28.3 million from $18.4 million for the same period last year. The company's comparable store sales increased 17.0% for the five-week period, on top of a comparable store sales increase of 14.3% in the year ago period.
For March 2007, management attributed total sales growth to an increase in in-store transactions and in average unit retail. Men's sales were said to be the primary positive contributor for the month, although all other departments also had positive comps. The company ended the five-week period with a store count of 248 stores, of which 176 are comps stores with plans to open 50 stores in 2007. The company expects same-store sales to be up in the low- to mid-single-digits for April.
