A subsidiary of The Sports Authority has won the leasehold interests to eight former Copeland Sports locations following the approval of the court overseeing the Copelands Enterprises bankruptcy. Assignment of leasehold rights in additional sites is expected within the next several weeks. TSA is expected to re-brand the sites and operate the stores under its own name for reopening in Spring 2007. The Sports Authority plans to retain many of the current employees working at the Copeland Sports retail stores that it has assumed.
The TSA subsidiary, which acquired the leasehold interests in these stores, is a joint venture between The Sports Authority, Hilco Merchant Resources, and Hilco Real Estate. Together, the companies will also manage the disposition of unwanted assets.
