SylvanSport, which makes trailers with built-in tents for hauling kayaks, bikes and other outdoor adventure gear, plans to more than double the size of its manufacturing plant in Brevard, NC.
The company’s plans call for expanding to a 50,000-square-foot facility a few miles down the road from their current 17,000-square-foot space. SylvanSport said it began work on the project a year ago as sales through RV dealers began to grow both domestically and internationally.
Using a grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation, which was created with proceeds from the state’s settlement with tobacco companies, SylvanSport will build the new facility on vacant land owned by the City of Brevard. SylvanSport worked closely with officials from Transylvania County and the City of Brevard to keep its light manufacturing, jobs and taxes in the area.
“An enormous amount of work has gone into this project from different organizations,” says Mark Tooley, Chairman of the Transylvania Economic Alliance. “We are especially thankful to the leadership at SylvanSport for their passion and desire to grow in Transylvania County.”
At SylvanSport’s current location, production levels are able to satisfy current demand, but the company’s growth makes the need for more space inevitable.
“Our entire team at SylvanSport is grateful for the community leadership in Transylvania County,” said Tom Dempsey, founder and president of SylvanSport. “This project will help to ensure our bright future in the North Carolina economy”
