Empowering women to use fitness as a way to find self-confidence, self-esteem and positive body image, ‘We Dare To Bare’ hosts thousands of participants and spectators who raise money by participating in inspiring, high-energy group fitness classes. Taking place in Union Square, attendees are encouraged to participate in their Sweaty Betty sports bras, demonstrating to women of all ages, particularly young girls, that all body types are strong and should be celebrated.
“I first attended ‘We Dare To Bare’ in New York in 2015 and look forward to the event every year. It’s incredibly inspiring to see so many women support each other in a positive, judgment-free way,” shared event attendee Katie Dalton. “Wearing sports bras may seem like a small gesture but, in our culture of unrealistic beauty standards, it’s empowering to ‘dare to bare’ – and even better to know that the event raises money to build a better future for so many young girls through Movemeant’s impact programs.”
“This is a day to recognize and celebrate beauty in all its different shapes and sizes. Movemeant Foundation and Sweaty Betty are committed to helping women at any age build positive body image through fitness,” said Jenny Gaither, Founder of Movemeant Foundation. “We want to shift the dialogue to focus less on what you want to lose and more on what you can gain – confidence, strength, and a positive sense. The funds we raise will help provide access to life-changing health and fitness programs that can help transform the lives of women and girls.”
With an annual fundraising goal of $500,000, Movemeant Foundation plans to dedicate $100,000to its body-positive scholarship program with She Plays We Win, helping girls from around the word build self-worth through sport by providing individual athletic scholarships, equipment, mentors and funding.
The Foundation also plans to use funds to expand its specially curated body-positive middle school Movemeant curriculum for underprivileged, at-risk youth, which currently helps girls in middle schools in New York and the Bay Area. The 12-week curriculum addresses the critical need for emotional, social and physical development for girls, with topics ranging from social media’s impact on beauty ideals to body diversity and genetics. Movemeant will launch its first program in New York at KIPP Washington Heights Middle School on September 24th.
This year, Movemeant Foundation and Sweaty Betty are excited to welcome instructors from some of the city’s most acclaimed fitness companies to ‘We Dare To Bare’ including SoulCycle, DOGPOUND, Surfset, Akin’s Army, Lyons Den, Jen Widerstrom, 305 Fitness, Jenny Gaither and Monique Berarducci.
In addition to attendees, instructors and VIPs will also be outfitted in head-to-toe Sweaty Betty wearing the brands bum-sculpting Power leggings along with the branded We Dare To Bare sports bra. Sweaty Betty will also have an onsite presence with a curated Pop-Up Shop offering a special one-day discount and a fun photo booth opportunity.
“I am thrilled to continue our partnership with the Movemeant Foundation in 2018,” said Tamara Hill-Norton, Founder and Creative Director of Sweaty Betty. “Sweaty Betty is all about making women feel amazing and, as a mum of two daughters, I find it so empowering to see Jenny and her team working to increase female self-confidence. Together I feel we can help drive the message even further.”
