Scott USA officially announced that they will be importing bikes into the U.S. market again, with the first official preview of the product only nine days away at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA. The company also officially announced that Scott Montgomery, formerly Cannondale VP of Marketing and the son of the founder, will be on board as the U.S. bike division’s general manager and VP.

Scott holds a large piece of the market in Europe and the bicycle division reportedly makes up about 70% of the company’s global sales. Montgomery told SEW’s sister publication, The B.O.S.S. Report, that Scott is in the “top five suppliers in Europe.”

The brand will reportedly be very competitive with U.S. manufacturers, since most of the product is sourced in the Far East. Montgomery said that company will focus on the “high end of the Scott bicycle range,” and that Scott USA will be very selective about their distribution and “try to craft the right image.”

Scott USA is hiring an all new sales force for the bike division. Montgomery told BOSS that there might be a rep or two handling both Scott USA winter sports and bicycles, but for the most part there will be “no efficiencies in the sales force.”

The company is supporting the move into the bike market with an all new 15,000 square foot home office in Sun Valley. The new facility should allow for continued expansion of the bicycle division if all goes well.
