Scheels announced plans to open a two-story store, complete with indoor Ferris wheel store, on the south side of Springfield, IL, in the summer of 2011.
The 200,000-square-foot store, set to open July 8, 2011, is being planned as the anchor for a larger retail and commercial development. Original plans were to begin construction last spring and to open in 2010.
The company expects to have bids within two weeks for store construction and to begin groundwork by Thanksgiving.
Scheels announced plans last year for the company’s first Illinois store, which will include 90 specialty shops, a gift lodge, virtual golf and shooting galleries; a 16-car, 60-foot Ferris wheel, a giant aquarium, and a hall of presidents, including an animated Abraham Lincoln.
