REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) and The Zumobi Network have made the Snow and Ski Report by REI mobile app available to users of smartphones using the Android platform.
The free application, recently updated for the iPhone and iPod touch, now allows outdoor enthusiasts on Android to access the most up-to-date skiing and snowboarding conditions at resorts around the world. Recently added features include expanded social media integration and push notifications for multiple resorts.
“Building on the success of our Snow and Ski Report for iPhone users, we’re excited to extend the REI brand and the same valuable information to Android users as they hit the slopes in the coming months,” said Michelle Eten, director of eCommerce at REI. “With the continued growth of the Android platform, we can deliver on our commitment to be a knowledgeable and helpful resource to outdoor enthusiasts so they enjoy safe, fun wintertime activities at their favorite destinations.”
The Snow and Ski Report by REI app for Android offers its users a wealth of information about weather and ski resort conditions. Skiers and snowboarders can customize the application and access information for up to 12 of their favorite resorts. The app provides one-touch access to weather conditions and forecasts, amount of new snow, trail and lift conditions, zoom-enabled trail maps, general resort information, live web cam views of the resort and the resort’s own Twitter feed. Users can also enable the option to receive push notifications to stay on top of what’s going on at their favorite resorts as it happens.
Users can also share resort conditions with friends and family through social network integration. A ‘share’ button located on the top of the screen permits one to send current snowfall and temperature reports via email, Facebook and Twitter.
“This Snow and Ski Report by REI app has proven to be a perennial favorite among snow sports enthusiasts,” said Ken Willner, CEO of Zumobi, which produced the app for REI. “It was a natural choice for us to publish an Android version as we expand our network’s presence on the platform. Launching this property, which has been so successful on the iPhone, for Android devices is a great way for us to achieve this and is also a great way to introduce new users to the quality apps on The Zumobi Network.”
The Snow and Ski Report by REI was first introduced on The Zumobi Network in December 2008 and immediately became a hit in Apple’s App Store ranking as the number three app in the weather category. One of the most popular apps, it received a four-star customer review in iTunes.
