Scott Sports is recalling about 2,000 of its 2014 model road bikes because the steering tube in the front fork can break, causing a fall hazard.

The recall involves men’s and women’s versions of Speedster 30, Speedster 40, Contessa Speedster 25 and Contessa Speedster 35 models. The bikes were sold in black and white with blue, green, purple or teal accents. The following serial number ranges are included in the recall: AS30500001–AS30504930, AS30700001–AS30704651, AS30900001–AS30903278, AS31100001–AS31103744 and AS40101604–AS40105463. The serial number is printed on a white sticker and embossed on the underside of the bicycle frame near the pedals.

Scott USA has received one report of a fork breaking. No injuries have been reported. The bikes were manufactured by Scott USA of Ketchum, ID in Cambodia and sold by authorized Scott dealers nationwide at retail and online from about August 2013 through May 2014 for between $1,000 and $1,300.

Scott has instructed customers to immediately stop using the bikes and bring them to their local dealer for a free replacement fork that will be installed at no cost.
