Payless ShoeSource Canada Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,200 prewalk and toddler size Airwalk(R) Compel shoes sold in Canada because of a risk that small plastic rivets that attach the back strap to the shoe can separate and detach, posing a choking hazard to
young children.

Payless has received one report in the United States of a child who began to choke on a detached rivet from one of these shoes. No injuries have been reported. Payless ShoeSource, Inc. has also issued a recall in the United
States in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

These are prewalk and toddler shoes in sizes 3 to 10 and sold in various colours. The brand name “Airwalk” and the shoe size are imprinted on the sole of the shoes sold in Canada. Only prewalk and toddler Airwalk Compel shoes in
sizes 3 to 10 sold between August 2006 and early April 2007 are included in the Canadian recall. No other sizes, styles or models are included in this Canadian recall.

The shoes were sold at Payless ShoeSource stores in Canada from August 2006 to April 2007 for about $18.

Consumers should take the recalled shoes away from young children immediately and may return the shoes to a Payless ShoeSource store for a cash refund or exchange. For more information, consumers may contact Payless toll-free at (800) 654-0697 between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Central Time
Monday through Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
