Outdoor equipment and apparel brand Marmot named Patrice Christensen as its new director of brand.
She will lead Marmot’s marketing team at the company’s corporate offices in Rohnert Park, CA, effectively replacing the brand’s longtime marketing director Tom Fritz, whose position, among others, was cut in May during the company’s transition to new ownership under Newell Brands.
Christensen most recently managed key components of marketing at VF Corp.’s Lucy brand, which makes women’s athleisure apparel. She also held marketing management positions with The North Face, PowerBar and Chevron.
“Working on great brands of varying sizes during different stages of their lifecycle has given me a uniquely strategic perspective,” Christensen said. “Having had exposure to almost every aspect of business, from sponsorship to supply chain, finance to PR, has given me a broad range of diverse experiences to tap into in this role.”
Christensen graduated from UCLA with a BA in history and a minor in business. She studied abroad in Australia for a year, exploring the continent outside her day-to-day studies. Christensen said she is also an athlete at heart, committed to the outdoor and fitness lifestyle. Beyond her scope of work, she can be found hiking, mountain biking, hitting the gym or yoga studio or skiing with her family. “While I’m active every day, I’m pretty much an outdoor enthusiast and weekend warrior. Fitness and movement is a part of who I am. And my outdoor pursuits are my balance — physically challenging myself in an environment of stillness and beauty — that’s what fills up my tank.”
Joe Flannery, Newell Brand’s senior vice president and general manager of technical apparel, said: “Hiring Patrice was part of an extensive search. We needed to find the right person inside a new management structure to help us realize the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Patrice has an impressive professional track record of achievements and brand building that will serve her well in her new role as director of brand for Marmot.”
