Grassroots Outdoor Alliance has admitted Tennessee outdoor specialty retailer Mahoney’s Outfitters as its newest retail member.

Mahoney's was founded in 1960 by Harold and Irene Mahoney at the corner of Sunset Drive and Knob Creek Rd in Johnson City, TN. It started as a simple Army/Navy store, but in 1970 when son Dan returned from the Army, Mahoney's began its evolution into the outdoor store it is today. Dan added sporting categories for clothing, footwear, hunting, and camping. In 1980 Dan's wife Katie joined the business and took over the management of the ladies department. In 1992 Dan's son Sean joined the business.

“Joining Grassroots is a partnership that Mahoney’s has been searching for,” said Brandon Davis, buyer and media manager for Mahoney’s. “It is the obvious next step for Mahoney’s as it blends superior buying power into key brands, and the ability to share intimate product knowledge and retail tactics with other members. We are excited to see what the future holds for this new membership!”

Mahoney’s will be attending the Grassroots Early Summit being held from June 9 – 12, 2014 in Loveland, CO.

Grassroots offers buying programs, networking opportunities and other services for its 48 independent outdoor retailers, who operate nearly 100 doors.
