According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played on a national level were up 5.2 percent in September 2012 over September 2011. Public access play was up 5.8 percent and private course activity was up 3.1 percent.

By region, the highest gain was seen in the Mid Atlantic, 17.6 percent; followed by South Atlantic, 8.9 percent; East North Central, 7.4 percent; and New England, 3.4 percent. Smaller gains were seen by Pacific, 1.1 percent; Mountain, 0.5 percent; West North Central, 0.3 percent; and South Central, 0.1 percent.
