Genesco Inc. got a nicely balanced quarter across its divisions in the first quarter ended April 30 as total net sales increased approximately 26.5% to $286 million for the period, compared to $226 million last year.

Same-store sales at the company’s Journeys unit increased roughly 7% and Underground Station store comps rose 11%. The Station group, which also includes the remaining Jarman stores posted a 9% comp gain. Hat World same-store sales increased 7% in Q1.

GCO reaffirmed guidance for Q1, calling for EPS in the 25 cents to 26 cents per share range, which reflects a $1.6 million, or six cents per share, after-tax charge related to an anticipated settlement of a class action suit brought on behalf of California employees.
