Gearhead Outfitters (GHO), an Arkansas-based family-owned outdoor specialty retailer owned by Ted and Amanda Herget, acquired two Summit Canyon Mountaineering stores in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction, Colorado, respectively, elevating its footprint to over 20 locations spanning Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and now Colorado.
Gearhead Outfitters was founded by Ted Herget in 1997 in Jonesboro, AR.
Summit Canyon Mountaineering ranks among Colorado’s more established outdoor specialty brands. GHO said in a release that it “eagerly anticipates expanding upon the business’s four-decade legacy of success by enriching the product selection and reinvesting in the team.”
As GHO rebrands and reinvents the respective retail spaces over the next few months, interior and exterior upgrades will be made.
“This marks a significant milestone for our industry as a whole! GHO was established 27 years ago following my time spent in Colorado, where I was inspired to bring the mountain lifestyle back to my hometown in Arkansas. Now, expanding our brand into two wonderful communities in Colorado feels somewhat serendipitous. Our business ethos revolves around attitude and gratitude, and entering the Colorado market is truly exhilarating for us,” said Ted Herget.
Ashlyn Cornell, director of operations at GHO, said, “It’s thrilling for our company to venture out west, extending our accessibility to customers. We have many guests across all our existing locations who enjoy vacationing out west, particularly in Colorado. Thus, it’s incredibly exciting for our customers to encounter a familiar presence when they’re in that region.”
The company said the expansion underscores its “aspiration to engage with additional communities and spread their passion for inspiring people to live an active, fulfilling life.”
