Entrepreneur’s 44-year-old ranking formula gives each franchise a cumulative score based on its analysis of more than 150 data points. The 500 franchises with the highest cumulative score are ranked from 1 to 500. The ranking accounts for costs and fees, size and growth, support, brand strength, financial strength, and stability.
Planet Fitness ranked 28 overall and led the fitness category for the fifth year in a row for its high performance in store growth, financial strength and stability and brand power.
F45 Training was ranked 29; Crunch, 39; Orangetheory Fitness, 85; and Anytime Fitness, 91.

Among retailers in the active lifestyle space, the top franchisor was Pro Image Sports, the seller of fan apparel and gear, at 216; The Good Feet Store, which specializes in arch support, ranked 287; Destination Athlete, a team dealer, at 344; The Vitamin Shoppe, at 418; and Play It Again Sports, appears at 432.
