City Sports will open a 10,434-square-foot store at 3338 M St. NW in Georgetown. The store will be the retailer's flagship store in D.C., though the retailer has three other locations in the District.

City Sports plans to take
over the retail space in October.

Currently, City Sports is seeking approval from the Old Georgetown Board
and the Historic Preservation Office to modify the exterior storefront
and is in the building authorization process through the Department of
Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) awaiting a construction permit,
which is expected later this fall. Construction plans to begin in late
October.

“Securing City Sports for Georgetown delivers the region's top athletic
specialty sports retailer to the area,” says Anthony Lanier, president
of EastBanc. “Georgetown's new upscale retail offerings are on the rise
and City Sports magnificently complements our retail landscape. We are
pleased to have them reside in one of our properties.”

EastBanc, landlord and self contractor responsible for the
store's shell construction, was able to provide substantial square
footage to City Sports for its premier Washington location through
natural lease expirations and secured an initial ten-year lease
agreement. KLMB Retail represented City Sports in the deal.

“City Sports is thrilled to be building our DC flagship in Georgetown,
where our customers live, work and play,” said Michael Mosca, EVP of
Merchandising for City Sports.  “The stunning space at 3338 M Street —
rich in history and architectural detail — has inspired us to take the
City Sports experience to a new level.  We are embracing the rich
heritage of the building by incorporating elements such as exposed
brick, reclaimed wood and industrial metal to showcase the products and
brands our customers know and love.  And we're going to surprise them
with interactive elements that will encourage gathering, learning and
“doing” with other urban athletes like them. We don't consider City
Sports a sporting goods store as much as an urban athletic movement.
And City Sports Georgetown will be the place that anyone who embraces
sport on any level will want to be.”
