OBIT: Athletic Footwear Pioneer Jerry Turner

Jerry Turner, who dramatically transformed the athletic business during his 60-year career, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, at the age of 84. He led Brooks in the ’60s and ’70s; founded American Sporting Goods, and is credited with inventing the stability running shoe category and bringing EVA to running midsoles.

2019 Boston Marathon Sets All-Time Fundraising Record

Boston Marathon participants who ran on behalf of 297 non-profit organizations raised a record $38.7 million for charity through this year’s race. The fundraising total represents an approximate 6-percent increase, or $2 million, over 2018 results.

Varsity Spirit Announces Multiyear Partnership With Memphis Grizzlies

Life Fitness Names Chris Clawson New CEO

Life Fitness announced the appointment of Chris Clawson as CEO. Clawson served as President of Life Fitness from 2010 to 2016 and most recently was Chairman of the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. He succeeds Jason Worthy, effective immediately.

Maven Announces $23.1 Million Private Placement

Maven, which was recently granted the license to operate the Sports Illustrated media business, raised $23.1 million from several accredited investors in a private placement of 23,100 shares of its Series I Convertible Preferred Stock.
