Cabela's is scheduled to open its second East coast store Thursday, August 12, 2004 near Wheeling, W.Va. The 175,000-square-foot retail store will feature an original 20-foot
bronze sculpture, museum-quality diorama, 30-foot Conservation Mountain, 55,000-gallon aquarium, and hundreds of wild game trophies displayed in an exceptional showroom. Other highlights include a laser arcade, furniture department, gun library, restaurant, general store, fly fishing store, bargain cave and gift shop.
Located at mile marker 10 near the Dallas Pike Exit of Interstate 70, the
complex will also include a 600,000-square-foot distribution center in its
first construction phase. The West Virginia location was selected because of
its proximity to I-70 and its accessibility to a large number of outdoor
enthusiasts that extends to Pennsylvania, Ohio and other parts of the region.
“People who live, work and play in this stunning part of the country love
the great outdoors,” said Dennis Highby, Cabela's president and CEO. “We are
very excited to open our second store in this area.” In September 2003,
Cabela's opened a 250,000-square-foot store in Hamburg, Pa.
As has been the plan in geographic locations of other recently built
stores, Cabela's plans to be a major component in area development that
includes the building of complementary businesses, such as hotels, restaurants
and other travel-related services.
The Wheeling, W.Va. store manager is Mike Boldrick. Cabela's expects to
employ up to 500 people.
