Birkenstock USA is relocating its headquarters to a 93-acre campus in  Novato, CA five years after vacating the site to cut costs, according to local press reports.

The company, which distributes Birkenstock footwear in the United States, expects to move more than 100 employees back to an office building at the site by September.

The campus is best known for a 135,000-square-foot warehouse that features a spiky, white roofk visible from Highway 101. Birkenstock has no plans to occupy that building, however, since it now ships its products from a distribution center in Hebron, KY, according to a report by marinij.com, a website published by the Marin Independent Journal newspaper.

After a tough three years, U.S. sales of Birkenstocks resumed growing in 2010 and have been growing at double-digit rates since, the newspaper reported. Employment has rebounded to 100 and the company needs more space to accomodate 11 planned hires and projected future growth.
