Stage Stores Inc. said Thursday same-store sales declined 6.2 percent in July — a bigger decline than predicted by analysts — and that it expects to meet or exceed the high end of its second-quarter profit…
 
The clothing and accessories retailer said total sales for the four-week period ended Aug. 2 slipped 1 percent to $108.1 million from $109.2 million.


Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected a 1 percent same-store sales decline.


Stage Stores said it expects to meet or exceed the high end of its outlook for earnings between 17 cents and 23 cents per share for the second quarter. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect profit of 23 cents per share. The company plans to report quarterly results on Aug. 21.
