Golf rounds played in the U.S. increased 1.1% in May 2005 over May 2004, according to NGF. Despite the gains experienced in May, nationwide rounds played were still down 1.6% through the first five months of the year.
The Mountain region saw the largest decrease in rounds played for the month, down 6.2% against last year, while the Southwest region, including California, Nevada, and southern Arizona, maintained its last place finish from last month, posting the largest year-to-date decline of 7.7%.
For the second month in a row, the Gulf Coast saw the largest gains in rounds played, posting an 8.8% increase over May 2004. This increase was enough to push the region into the top spot for year-to-date gains, posting an increase of 3.6%.
