Zumiez Inc. reported comps for the five-week March period ended April 3 increased 13.2% on net sales that increased 20.1% to approximately $35.8 million from $25.8 million im march last year.  On a pre-recorded call, company CFO Trevor Lang said dollars per transaction were down slightly due to a decrease in average unit retail, which was mostly offset by an increase in units per transaction.

Zumiez saw the highest surge from store locations in the West, which registered growth of 13% in comparable store sales while comps in the Northeast, South and Midwest rose 12%, 10% and 9%, respectively. Product segments which saw the most growth were mens, accessories, footwear and boys, which were partially offset by depleting numbers in hard goods and juniors.

On a quarter-to-date basis, Zumiez saw a positive 12.3% surge in comps as compared to a negative 16% during the comp period in 2009.
