On Saturday, January 29, 2005, Utah’s recently inaugurated Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. will be addressing the Outdoor Industry Association’s Industry Breakfast sponsored by Smartwool on the opening day of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, at 7:30 am at the Marriot Hotel Downtown.

“We are pleased that Governor Huntsman has expressed interest in continuing the invaluable dialogue started by his predecessors,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, President of the Outdoor Industry Association. “We look forward to hearing more about his vision for protecting Utah’s wild recreation destinations and enhancing the state’s outdoor recreation economy.”

The 2005 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market will mark the ninth consecutive year that the show has been held in Salt Lake City, bringing an estimated $32 million and 35,000 visitors to the state each year. OR Winter Market will be the first show since OIA recommended keeping the show in Salt Lake City for five years contingent on commitments from the state to promote and protect Utah’s premiere recreation destination and economy, as well as a significant expansion to the Salt Palace which has already commenced.

The Industry Breakfast, sponsored by Smartwool, kicks off the 2005 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. In addition to a brief address by Governor Huntsman, the breakfast will feature Lisa Johnson, author of “Don’t Think Pink,” who will speak about tapping into the growing women’s segment of the market. Johnson’s presentation coincides with the release of Outdoor Industry Foundation’s “Getting Women Active- A Toolkit for the Trade,” filled with practical research and tips for growing female participation in outdoor recreation.
