USA Triathlon unveiled its refreshed 2020 Quad Strategic Plan, which will guide the organization’s priorities and decision-making through the remainder of the current Olympic/Paralympic quadrennium.
“USA Triathlon’s ambitious goals over the next two years include increasing constituent service and engagement, growing participation and achieving international competitive success,” said Barry Siff, president of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. “The Strategic Plan reflects these priorities while keeping athlete welfare, safety and inclusion at the heart of our mission. The Board has full faith in the USA Triathlon staff to carry out this plan, and we are confident that the sport will benefit as a result.”
A strategic advisory group comprised of key constituents from across the triathlon industry and representatives from the U.S. Olympic Committee collaborated to ensure USA Triathlon’s strategic priorities are aligned with its own vision and mission. This includes effectively addressing internal and external issues facing the organization and the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, and ensuring they are achievable through 2020. The refreshed Strategic Plan places increased emphasis on the following key areas:
- Value Proposition: Delivering value, enhancing experiences and effectively engaging USA Triathlon’s athletes and key constituents, including race directors, coaches, clubs, officials and volunteers. USA Triathlon will provide robust resources to increase customer satisfaction for each constituent group and launch an online education platform to support race directors, coaches and officials’ education and certification processes.
Athlete Welfare: Supporting holistic athlete development with an emphasis on health, safety and fair competition. This will be achieved through enhanced SafeSport and Clean Sport (anti-doping) programming, as well as the creation of a comprehensive career transition program for elite athletes.
Diversity and Inclusion: Increasing diversity in the triathlon community by fostering an environment of inclusiveness regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status or sexual orientation. USA Triathlon aims to increase women’s triathlon participation from 39 to 42 percent of all participants, expand relevance and reach to communities of color and low socio-economic status, and launch a collaborative diversity campaign with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Technology and Innovation: Strategically integrating technical solutions to improve operations and enhance constituent experience. USA Triathlon will evaluate, develop and implement systems and platforms that consistently support core business operations, while adopting new technologies and ways of doing business that drive significant advancements in customer service, efficiency and effectiveness.
