Dealing with temperatures that regularly reach the triple digits is no easy task, especially with 50 pounds of body armor trapping all of the heat.
A platoon leader from Granbury, TX recently wrote to Camelbak asking for a donation. He said, “As you may already know, your hydration system is the best tool to keep soldiers hydrated. Unfortunately, we are not issued your product, and as a result soldiers are carrying hot water in bulky canteens.”
With temps in Iraq reaching as high as 117°F, this seems to be the sentiment among U.S. forces there. Camelbak hydration systems have been standard issue for the U.S. military special forces ever since the first Gulf War, but regular enlisted men have no such luck.
