Under Armour will announce that it will buy the entire Tide Point waterfront office complex in South Baltimore with plans to turn it into a palatial corporate campus, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun. Under Armour already occupies nearly half of the 400,000-square-foot Tide Point complex.

According to the report, Under Armour has been looking for several years  for a place to build a sprawling corporate campus similar to competitors such as Nike. Executives looked at the headquarters of Quicksilver, Pacific Sunwear, Google and
Intuit, among others. Under Armour also contemplated a building along the Baltimore
waterfront in West Covington.

The decision to create a local campus came shortly after Under Armour
invested $14.2 million last year to further expand at Tide Point, adding
14 showrooms, an “innovation lab,” expansive meeting spaces and a
basketball court. The Under Armour logo is prominently displayed at the
entrance to the complex.

Tide Point was once a Procter & Gamble manufacturing plant that made detergents.

The move was seen as a cementing of Under Armour's future in the city of Baltimore. Besides seeking more space to support its growth, it will also serve as a recruiting and sales tool.

“As we look at a global headquarters and look to attract talent and
attract clients, we need an energetic headquarters,” Scott Plank, executive vice president of business development, told the Baltimore Sun.
