Following last years 20% drop in bicycle exports, Taiwans top bike makers roared back with strong sales growth in January.
The nations largest bike maker, Giant Global Group, reported January sales of NT$1.525 billion ($48.3mm)-an increase of 11.6% compared with the previous year. The nations second largest bike maker Merida reported sales of NT$984 million ($30.9mm)-an increase of 26.2%. Both companies set new sales and shipment records for the month, according to several media reports.
Taiwan manufactures between 4 million and 5 million high value bikes a year for global export markets. The countrys premiere industry trade show – the Taipei International Cycle Show – kicks off March 17.
