Building on the success of its 9 Peak, Suunto created the 5 Peak for the outdoor fitness enthusiast looking for a lightweight GPS watch with up to 100 hours of battery life at a cost-effective price point.
An evolution of the original Suunto 5, the watch is “41 percent lighter than its forbear, is sleeker due to the absence of the older model’s GPS nose, offers up to 100 hours of battery life, handy music controls on the watch, automatic, over the air software updates, features Suunto’s new design language, and a selection of easily changeable accessory straps to suit individual style. All that at $329, the Suunto 5 Peak delivers an uncompromising, feature-filled sports watch at a budget-friendly price,” said Suunto.
Made in Finland, Suunto designers created this watch “for people active outdoors who want to explore new terrain and are motivated to achieve personal fitness goals safely and confidently. Combined with the Suunto app and its heat and 3D maps, users can easily discover popular routes, plan their own, transfer them to the watch, and follow them—turn by turn—on their next adventure. An impressive array of partner services enhances these possibilities even further,” Suunto continued.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that the Suunto 5 Peak is going to perform strongly given its ultra-lightweight and sleek design, rich functionality, combined with its accessible price point,” said Heikki Norta, president, Suunto. “That’s what we set out to achieve when we sat down to design this watch, and I believe consumers will agree we haven’t come up short. With this watch, they are ready for their next adventure.”
Suunto noted the following features:
- Weighs 39 grams;
- Music controls;
- Three battery modes: Performance (20 hours), Endurance (40 hours), Tour (up to 100 hours);
- In Time Mode, the watch lasts up to 10 days on a single charge;
- 80-plus sport modes or customize with Suunto’s app;
- Create routes/find routes for 20 different sports via heatmaps with Suunto’s app;
- View activities on 3D maps with Suunto’s app;
- Wrist-based heart rate monitor;
- Adaptive training guidance, step tracking, calorie counter, recovery, measure sleep quality and duration; and

As with all Suunto watches, “the Suunto 5 Peak was subjected to extreme testing, has been built to withstand all weather conditions and is water-resistant up to 30 meters. The stainless-steel bezel and polyamide lens ensure the watch serves as a long-term training partner,” said Suunto.
The watch comes with straps in six colors, including Suunto’s first strap made with waste materials left over in strap production and nine other compatible 22mm accessory straps for personalization. The watch will be available at retail on February 1.
