Sports Authority held its first-ever Sports Authority Football Field Day on Sunday for more than 2,000 attendees in partnership with USA Football’s Heads Up Football initiative. The free, on-field football training camp and vendor expo were open to the public and took place at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday, June 29.

The training camp, which had more than 450 participants between the ages of 6 and 14, allowed players to navigate through drill stations dedicated to specific skills such as passing, catching, running, defense, agility training, Heads Up Tackling and more. With a strong emphasis on player safety, the event offered professional helmet and shoulder pad fittings along with skills assessments and training designed to strengthen and diversify playing techniques.

“We are very pleased with the turnout and success of our first Sports Authority Football Field Day,” said Paul M. Okimoto, chief marketing officer of Sports Authority. “We partnered with USA Football’s Heads Up initiative with the goal of providing an on-field clinic for tomorrow’s football stars that focused on player safety before the upcoming season. We wanted to help families and young athletes throughout the Denver area understand how to play the sport in a safer but still fun manner, and we believe Sports Authority Football Field Day achieved just that.”

“I think Sunday was a great way to celebrate and teach the fundamentals of football in a fun and exciting way for kids,” said Wayne Voorhees, master trainer of USA Football. “The opportunity to experience Heads Up Football tackling, catching, passing, defensive coverage, ball security, and running fundamentals on Sports Authority Field will be a lifelong memory for kids. I believe that this event was also a great way for parents to be educated in football fundamentals as well as equipment options and fitting to give their kids the safest possible experience when they play in the fall. The partnership between USA Football and Sports Authority is pivotal in making the game of football a better, safer game.”

Representatives from top brands such as Nike, Under Armour and Riddell were on site to showcase their latest products. Sports Authority Football Field Day also included athlete appearances, meet-and-greets with Denver Broncos cheerleaders and Miles the Mascot, plus games, prizes and more.
