Sierra Trading Post, which has become a significant clearance outlet for specialty outdoor brands, will open its first outlet on the East Coast in Burlington, VT, The TJX Companies Inc. CEO Carol Meyrowitz disclosed Tuesday.
Since being acquired by TJX in December, 2012, Cheyenne, WY-based Sierra Trading Post has expanded from two retail locations to six – a tiny fraction of the nearly 2,600 stores TJX operates in the U.S. TJX had announced plans to open two additional Sierra Trading Post locations this year but had not disclosed locations other than to say one would be in the Northeastern region.
This spring, a contractor pulled permits to build a store in Colorado Springs, CO, that would become the third Sierra Trading Post location open in that state since last summer. Sierra Trading Post also recently broke ground on a 350,000-square-foot expansion to its fulfillment center in Cheyenne, WY.
