Shock Doctor, the leader in mouthguards, formed a partnership with women’s field hockey star Lidewij Welten.
A two-time Olympic Gold medallist for the Netherlands and recognized as the Best Female Hockey Player of the Year in 2015, Welten will exclusively wear a Shock Doctor mouthguard and work with the brand to raise awareness about mouthguard protection among field hockey players of all levels.
“I’ve trusted Shock Doctor mouthguards throughout my career. They’re extremely comfortable and protect me perfectly, so I can really focus on my performance,” said Welten. “I’m very happy to be officially partnering with Shock Doctor, and I’m looking forward to Tokyo in 2020.”
Lidewij (Lee-duh-WAY) Welten will participate in the brand’s ongoing mission to increase discussion among young athletes, athletic governing bodies, youth leagues, coaches and parents on the benefits of mouthguards.
Growing up in a field hockey family, Welten joined her first national squad at age 14. In 2008, at age 17, she played in her first international match. Later that year, she became the youngest Dutch field hockey player ever to win an Olympic gold medal, and she helped the Netherlands win gold again in 2012. Welten didn’t stop there, earning the coveted Player of the Year honor from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in 2015.
