Shock Doctor Acquires XO Athletic

Shock Doctor, the number one mouthguard company, has acquired XO Athletic, best known for its athletic cups and supporters. Shock Doctor intends to maintain the XO Athletic brand. Terms were not disclosed.

In February 2002, Mike Landi resigned from Kraft Foods, joined his brother Jim Landi and formed the XO Athletic Company, becoming a branded player in sports medicine. Based in Union, NJ, XO Athletic established itself in sports protection behind its patented flex-sided XO ProCup in 2003. XO later pioneered advances in athletic cups with 2Shot molding for comfort, along with Teen and PeeWee sizes for proper fit and protection. Its product range now includes compression shorts, mouthguards, sports cups and heart guards for men, youth and boys.

Shock Doctor said the acquisition provides access to patented technologies owned by XO along with retail distribution efficiencies that will benefit both brands. It follows on the June 2012 acquisition of Cutters Gloves, the maker of football gloves and accessories as well as other sports gloves for the baseball, fitness, golf and soccer markets.

XO Athletic established itself in sports protection behind its patented flex-­‐sided XO ProCup in 2003. XO later pioneered advances in athletic cups with 2Shot™ molding for comfort, along with Teen and PeeWee sizes for proper fit and protection. Today, the company continues to develop extensions of their patented technologies to provide new and innovative products for athletes of all ages.
