SGMA Elects New Board Members

The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association has elected its Board of Directors, which includes three new members for the 2008-2011 term. Lindsay Stewart, the special advisor to the chairman/CEO – Nike, Inc. ,has been elected to a full term while Jim Tompkins, president and COO of New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. and Jim Lillie, president and COO of Jarden Corp. were named to fulfill terms of executives who previously represented their companies on the Board.

Those re-elected for full terms were Carl Ferraro (President – Regent Sports Corporation), Larry Franklin (President – Franklin Sports, Inc.), Carol Hochman (President – Triumph Apparel), Kerry Kligerman (President – Vital Apparel Group), and George Napier (President – Prince Sports). They join previously named Directors which include Jim Baugh (Founder – PE4life), Rich Bourne (President/CEO – ASICS America), Dan Bower (President – Century, Inc.), Chris Considine (President – Wilson Sporting Goods Company), Paul Ehrlich (Vice President/Business Affairs & General Counsel – adidas), Doug Kelly (President – Russell Athletic), Kevin Lamar (President/CEO – Lamar Health, Fitness, & Sports, LLC), Mitchell Modell (CEO – Modell’s Sporting Goods), Kevin Plank (CEO – Under Armour Performance Apparel), Bob Puccini (President – Mizuno USA, Inc.), Robert Whip (President – Horizon Fitness), Richard Kazmaier (Chairman – SR Industries), Steve Furniss (Executive Vice President – TYR Sport, Inc.), Tom Cove (President/CEO – SGMA).

The current chairman, Tom Rogge, (President/CEO – Cramer Products, Inc.) was re-elected by the full SGMA membership to serve as SGMA Chairman for the next year.

“Having Lindsay Stewart, Jim Lillie, and Jim Tompkins join the SGMA Board is a real coup,” said Rogge. “They bring a wealth of experience and respect, both personally and through the companies they represent, that will certainly help to guide SGMA to serve our industry.”

These board members were elected to their positions during the SGMA’s annual business meeting on Thursday, December 13 in Washington, D.C.

SGMA Elects New Board Members

SGMA International is pleased to announce the reelection of Dick Kazmaier (chairman of SR Industries; Concord, MA) to Chairman of the Board. Tim Joyce (executive vice president of adidas USA; Portland, OR) was reelected as Vice Chairman.

SGMA International's by-laws allow its Board of Directors to reappoint Tom Rogge (Cramer Products; Gardner, KS) as Secretary/Treasurer and John Riddle as President/CEO. These two reappointments will take place during SGMA International's Board of Directors meeting on October 15 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The membership of the association has elected the following new board members:

  • Dan Bower – President; Century Sporting Goods; Midwest City, OK
  • Robert J. Corliss – President/CEO; The Athlete's Foot Group; Atlanta, GA
  • Kevin T. Lamar – President; Nautilus Health and Fitness Group; Louisville, CO
  • J. Wayne Merck – Executive Vice President/COO; K2 Inc.; Los Angeles, CA
  • Kevin Plank – President; Under Armour; Baltimore, MD

Also re-elected to the board, representing P.E.4LIFE, is Jim Baugh (former president of Wilson Sporting Goods Company). Baugh is the founder of P.E.4LIFE.

Other board members are: Jim Davis (New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc.); Larry Franklin (Franklin Sports, Inc.); Steve Furniss (Tyr Sport, Inc.); Dave Haggerty (Head/Penn Racquet Sport USA); Marty Hanaka (The Sports Authority); Greg Hege (Porter Athletic Equipment Company); Carol Hochman (Danskin, Inc.); George Horowitz (Everlast Worldwide); Kerry Kligerman (Vital Apparel Group); Carol Mabe (Russell Athletic); Doug Morton (The Sports Authority); Bob Munroe (Reebok International); George Napier (Prince Sports); Tony Palma (Easton Sports); and Kirk Stewart (Nike, Inc.).

For the first time in the history of SGMA International, this election was conducted online. SGMA distributed electronic ballots to its membership via Email.
