Scott Sports renewed Wednesday its sponsorship of the Utah High School Cycling League for the 2015 season mountain bike racing season. This will be Scott's second year as a Platinum level sponsor of the Utah League.
The League is one of 15 teams in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) and was the largest with 877 student-athletes in 2014. It consists of 54 teams representing 89 high schools throughout Utah. Scott Sports U.S.
“Scott's support of our program has been incredibly valuable as we've grown so rapidly,” said Lori Harward, executive director of the Utah High School Cycling League. “Last season was a banner year for us. We grew 67 percent to more than 1000 participating student athletes, with 392 coaches and 63 teams. This remarkable progression would not have been possible without Scott's backing,” added Harward.
The Scott Sports home office was relocated to Salt Lake City from Sun Valley, Idaho in September 2013. Since then, the company has established its identity on the Wasatch front as a committed supporter of local events and riders. In addition to supporting the Utah High School Cycling League, Scott sponsors events like the Tour of Utah, the Park City Point to Point, and the Scott Enduro Cup.
“We have a long term vision of promoting the sport of cycling across all disciplines and all generations,” said Nic Sims, Scott Sports marketing director. “Helping create a framework for junior and high school age kids to get excited about riding a bike is not just good for our brand, it's good for the future of our sport,” he added.
Since it was founded in 2011, the Utah High School Cycling League has grown from 29 teams with 325 student-athletes when founded, to 54 teams and 877 athletes representing 89 high schools throughout Utah. Utah League was the largest of 15 leagues in the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) in 2014. It organizes 5 races each season, and provides training and education for coaches and volunteers, and produces an annual coaches training, fundraising events and rider camps and skills clinics.
