Score Sports, a maker of youth team sports uniforms and equipment based in Wilmington, CA, appointed FIFA World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach to its Board of Directors.
Score Sports was acquired by Brand Velocity Group (BVG) in September.
Wambach is a six-time winner of the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award and a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. She currently stands as the U.S. Women’s National Team’s highest all-time goal scorer with 184 goals. As a member of the Score Board of Directors, Wambach will provide strategic counsel to support the company’s growth across youth sports.
Score was founded in 1975 and led by two sisters who saw a need for accessibly priced soccer uniforms. The company provides gear for soccer, basketball, baseball/softball, flag football, and volleyball through its vertically integrated, North American-based manufacturing operation.
“Score’s mission has always been to create nationwide access to youth sports opportunities,” said Kevin Mahoney, president and CEO, Score Sports. “With Abby’s voice as an iconic athlete and champion of youth sports participation, Abby is incredibly well-positioned to positively impact our industry. It’s exciting that she recognizes what we at Score work so hard to do and that we’re the team she wants to make her impact with.”
BVG’s acquisition included an elite group of investors at each of the league, team owner, and athlete levels, including Carmelo Anthony, Nolan Arenado, Andre Drummond, Steve Hutchinson, Carli Lloyd, the Manning family (Peyton, Eli, and Cooper), Weston McKennie, DK Metcalf, Khris Middleton, Kelly Olynyk, Marcus Smart, Tim Tebow, Isaiah Thomas, and Klay Thompson.
