Wendy Schrupp, the longtime associate editor for the National Ski Patrol (NSP), the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), has been promoted to communications director and editor-in-chief, effective June 1. Schrupp is replacing Rebecca Ayers, who is resigning from the position after 17 years to spend more time with family and pursue freelance opportunities.

In her new role, Schrupp will oversee communications for the three associations and serve as editor of Ski Patrol Magazine, The Professional Skier, and The Pro Rider as well as other education materials. She will also work closely with the national marketing and education departments to manage media relations and support a variety of other association initiatives.

A graduate of Colorado State University’s school of journalism, Schrupp worked as a reporter for newspapers in Colorado and New Mexico before joining NSP and PSIA’s consolidated administrative staff as assistant editor in 1993. She was promoted to associate editor in 1994, taking a more active role in the day-to-day workings of Ski Patrol Magazine, The Professional Skier and, subsequently, The Pro Rider, which debuted in 1998.

Another longtime communications staffer has also been promoted. Jim Schnebly, assistant editor for NSP, PSIA, and AASI since 1997, is the new associate editor for the three associations, concurrent with Schrupp’s promotion. Accordingly, Schnebly will work closely with Schrupp to develop magazine content; correspond with authors, technical reviewers, and publishing vendors; and oversee the department’s editorial calendar.

A graduate of the University of Colorado’s English Department, Schnebly also comes from a journalism background, having worked for various Colorado newspapers and other publications before joining the NSP/PSIA/AASI editorial staff.

“Wendy’s and Jim’s experience and commitment to the associations as members of an exceptionally successful department speaks for itself,” said Stephen Over, the executive director of NSP, PSIA, and AASI. “The transition into these new roles will be seamless, and we congratulate both of them on their accomplishment.”
