REI is considering opening its first store in Oklahoma, which would plug a gap between its stores in Texas and Florida, according to a report by TulsaWorld.com.

The site reports developers are negotiating with the City of Tulsa, OK to lease a location along Riverside Drive for a major development that would be anchored by REI's first store in the state. The report is based on anonymous sources and REI does not comment on unannounced store openings.

REI, a retail cooperative that pays members a rebate of about 10 percent a year on their full-price purchases,  has 135 stores in 33 states as well as online at REI.com and REI.com/outlet. It currently has no stores in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama.
