The global sports nutrition market has ballooned in recent years, according to a report from Research and Markets, which credits the growth to non-athlete consumers purchasing products earlier intended for athletes and body builders.

The report is titled, “Global Sports Nutrition Market Size, Share, Development, Growth and Demand Forecast to 2022.”

Other sections in the report show the sports nutrition market gaining more ground due to the increase in health-consciousness among populations, along with increased urbanization, new product development and growth in number of sales outlets, fitness centers, gyms and health clubs.

The number of health clubs and fitness centers has witnessed a global increase as well, attributed to growing health awareness and changing demographic factors in some countries with increased proportion of young population. “Some producers are focused to reinvent the sports nutrition category by embedding health, wellness and overall fitness in the products, and are targeting new user segment,” said Research and Markets.

Overall it would appear the category has done a good job at winning consumer trust, overcoming negative perception over disputed ingredients, such as anabolic steroids, stimulants and prohormones.
