REI Co-op announced it intends to open a retail store in Durango, CO, in spring 2025; this would be the retailer’s tenth store in the state.

“We have long been interested in joining the Durango community. Despite the closest REI store being over 100 miles away, we have nearly 9,000 active members in the area,” said Janet Hopkins, REI regional director. “We look forward to being a resource to all and partnering with nonprofits doing incredible work to protect natural places and create belonging in the outdoors.”

The proposed store floor print would include 22,000 square feet in the building on the Northwest corner of Turner Drive and U.S. Highway 550. REI plans to include a full-service bike shop and ski and snowboard shops within the store.

REI Co-op also announced it has 2.2 million members residing in Colorado and 250,000 members in Albuquerque-Santa Fe, NM.The closest REI stores to Durango are in Grand Junction, CO and Santa Fe, NM.

REI operates 181 stores in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
