REI Co-op announced plans to open six stores in Spring 2025 in Carlsbad, Chico and Elk Grove, CA; Amherst, NY; Durango, CO; and Lynnwood, WA.

This is a decline from the ten stores the retailer plans to open by the end of 2024, including an expansion of its San Diego store that opened in 1994.

The outdoor retailer also shared plans to open a store in Prosper, TX, in 2026, which would join a previously announced store opening in St. George, UT.

REI also plans to open additional stores in 2026 and will make those known when the leases are finalized.

The new REI stores in Amherst, Durango, and Lynnwood will also operate seasonal ski and snowboard shops with technicians who service downhill, cross-country, and backcountry skis, snowboards, and splitboards. REI in St. George will offer Nordic ski hand tuning and snowboard mounting.

2025 Summer store openings include new construction in Durango, CO. The store will occupy a 22,000-square-foot store south of the downtown corridor. REI operates ten stores in Colorad0; and Elk Grove, CA, a 22,127 square-foot space opening in the Laguna Gateway Shopping Center. This will be the second store the co-op opens in Northern California next year. REI has three regional stores, in the area including Folsom, Roseville and Sacramento.
