REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) is expected to announce this week that it will open its eighth store in Oregon in Salem, according to the Statesman Journal, the city’s daily newspaper.

The newspaper said REI spokeswoman Bethany Hawley confirmed the retailer had leased space at the Keizer shopping mall, which is anchored by a Lowe’s home improvement center and a Target.
REI usually announces new stores at least eight months in advance, indicating the new store won’t open until 2014. The Kent, WA-based outdoor specialty retailer already operates stories in Portland, Clackamas, Hillsboro, Tualatin, Medford, Eugene and Bend.
