While many vendor companies and OIA are meeting to discuss standards for eco-sensitive labeling, REI has already rolled out a plan to implement a similar program into its REI brand products. The new eco-sensitive label will designate items manufactured with a high percentage of recycled, rapidly renewable and/or organic fibers. This program is designed to complement the company's broader strategy to reduce its environmental impact in all areas of its business.
REI is still collaborating with several supply chain partners and other stakeholders in an industry-wide initiative to establish clear and consistent information about “eco-friendly” and “green” products.
