REI Co-op has hired Mike Cannata as vice president of human resources. This newly created role will reportedly lead the retailer’s strategy and execution of initiatives focused on the experience of hourly salaried workers and their managers within its stores, distribution centers and experiences division.

“Mike brings deep retail expertise across business operations and human resources,” said Apple Musni, chief people officer at REI Co-op. “He’ll play a critical role at the co-op, focusing on strengthening and modernizing how we attract, grow and engage our teams to help fulfill our co-op’s mission and purpose.”

REI said in a release that Cannata was, most recently, the vice president of human resources at Under Armour, supporting its commercial businesses globally. Before UA, he worked for over a decade at Target, progressing from store management to human resources leadership.
